Kev and Em Go West

From South Carolina to South of Market
We are in DC right now exploring! We went to our friend Wendell’s remarkable wedding yesterday and also got to hang out with John, who we’ve missed dearly. Here we are at a great little spot called Teaism for breakfast. It was delicious but the food didn’t compare with the hearty conversation.

Farmer’s market haul, left to right: radishes, black mustard greens, mixed salad greens/weeds, rosemary sitting on a container of dried cherries, baby kale, cara cara oranges and a grapefruit, brussel sprouts, chinese broccoli, pioppini ‘shrooms, baby potatoes, Christmas limas, Rio Zape beans, and three Fuerte avocadoes. I am a happy veggiephile.

Yesterday I went to Golden Gate Park to do some reading. Here is the view from the top of Strawberry Hill, the place where I camped out.

Instead of Casual Friday, Kevin’s employer has an occasional “Dressy Friday,” which is today. So dapper, that one.

Lunch today at Gracias Madre after church - vegan Mexican cuisine. My favorite was the sauteed collards con pepita. Also, I got to talk to my own madre this morning, for which I am thankful. Gracias, madre!

We walked back down the pier to the Ferry Building, which is a bustling market for local food vendors (chocolate, olives, mushrooms, cheese, gelato, etc.). We made an SF bucket list this morning, and I am now adding “eat our way through the Ferry Building” to it.

Then, we walked into the Outer Sunset for tasty lunch at a little bakery, Devil’s Teeth. There we were introduced to alfajores - pecan shortbread with dulce de leche filling.

This is out of order, but here I am at Ocean Beach. After all of our escapades today, we came home and ordered Chinese delivery from SF Oceanic while watching “Forks Over Knives”. A contradiction, perhaps, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable end to the day!

We also saw a very San Francisco ferry docked there.

Next stop was a pier near the end of the 1 MUNI bus on the Embarcadero. The sail boats were out in full force today!
